Where Do You Want to Be?…

“What’s REALLY Holding You Back?” -  Valerie Burton, a GREAT read!

Recently, I have been focused on expanding my connections and overall network of contacts through developing real relationships with business owners.  This is my so-called “platform” I have taken for 2010.  My basis for this is, is to connect with other business people, really getting to know their business objectives, as well as hurdles for 2010.  I focus on how I might be able to connect them to another viable source or contact in hopes that they will excel their business.  I ask NOTHING from them in return, it’s just a chance to get to know them better, to help them out – because I know by giving value to them first – they will be remember me.

In my mad quest of seeking out connections, I began reading this new book called, “What’s REALLY Holding You Back?” from Valerie Burton.  She stands on – “Closing the Gap of Where You Are and Where You Want to Be.”  It got me thinking… I have a general plan of attack of who I want to market to, and what I want to market; but ultimately I don’t have a current view of where I am and a goal of where I want to be.

This being said, I’m working on my plan…

First, everyone must first have a plan as to where they want to be.  Sure, you’re thinking where do I start?  Me too!  However, through reaching out to some of my outstanding connections, I have the fortune to have been connected to some great Business Coaches to help guide me through this process!  Thank you Leanne Hoagland-Smith, Bridget Williams and all the ladies in book club!

So there it is – my first revelation – NO ONE CAN GET THERE ALONE.  It takes teamwork and relationships to get you where you want to be.  My first assignment given was to beef up my overall presence by enhancing my online profiles and image, including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. – And thus… this blog has emerged!  What is your overall appearance to others?  How are you portrayed?  What credibility do you have?  Take this first step in managing your own image so it’s what YOU want others to perceive about you.

Next, I will be undergoing a self-evaluation in which I will not only be looking at my attributes from my own perspective, but through the eyes of some of my closest peers and a great business coach personal assessment!  I want to focus on my most outstanding characteristics and utilize my talents.  This is a huge benefit to me, to see through the eyes of others – to step outside my comfort zone – to take the good with the bad.  One of the ways to get where we want to be is to play on our strengths, understanding and recognizing our weaknesses – while improving on them everyday!
